News from Euroregion Baltic

The third Match Meeting of the South Baltic Programme took place in Palanga on 16-17 June 2010. During this event, the Capacity Building Project was introduced as a tool to facilitate project development, offering trainings, workshops and consultations for the beneficiaries of the South Baltic Programme, especially newcomers and local actors.

The General Affairs Council of the Council of Ministers adopted  conclusions on the Commission 2010 strategic report. The conclusions were prepared by the Spanish Presidency, assisted by the future Belgian and Hungarian Presidencies, and deal with both the Commission’s conclusions and recommendations as well as giving pointers as to the future direction of the policy.

The Capacity Building Project within the South Baltic Programme has opened the second call for experts to support the potential beneficiaries for the Capacity Building Project. On 21st June the delegation of Euroregion Baltic, chaired by President Jacek Protas, met the Lithuanian Minister of Interior, Mr Raimundas Palaitis. The meeting concerned the future participation of Klaipeda County in Euroregion Baltic.

Between 17 and 18 June the stakeholders of Euroregion Baltic met in Elbląg in order to continue the process of reviewing the cooperation, as recommended earlier this March in the road map adopted by the Council.

Documentation of the Committee of the Regions’ Forum on Macro-Regions is now available.

Euroregion Baltic representatives took part in the 13th meeting of the Inter-governmental Polish – Lithuanian Commission on Cross-border Cooperation held  in Warsaw on 20th May.

A ScanBalt Health Region (SBHR) round table took place on 19 March 2010 in Gdansk.

The Committee of the Regions has launched a Europe-wide consultation on EU rules for cross-border cooperation. On the eve of the sixtieth anniversary of the Schuman Declaration the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek and the former European Commission President Jacques Delors adopted a declaration calling for the creation of a new European Energy Community (EEC).
