Polish FA Minister explain EU Presidency priorities and challenges

In an article published in the latest supplement issue of the Baltic Rim Economies Quarterly Review, Mr Radosław Sikorski, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs presents main priorities and challenges of the first ever Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The article describes two main focus areas of the Presidency i.e. economic and foreign policies. In the area of economy the main goal will be to promote growth and economic cooperation through better governance and fiscal policies in order to prevent the occurrence of future economic crises and foster global competiveness of the EU. To achieve this goal the Presidency will take actions aiming at improving financial, internal, military, energy and food security of the entire European Union. The second focus area concerns foreign policies including new initiatives in the Middle East and North Africa in response to the Arab Spring, and Eastern Europe which will be highlighted by the Eastern Partnership summit in Warsaw in October. The Polish Presidency will also try to finalise the accession negotiations with Croatia and accelerate negotiations with Turkey and Island. You can read the entire article here
