ERRIN and Inova+ are supporting ESPON in organising a series of transnational outreach events across Europe between 2017-2019. Two events will take place in October in the Baltic area that may be of interest to you!
On October 2nd 2018 in Växjö, the seminar will examine Economic development in rural regions – new thinking and policies in finding and exploiting endogenous capacities (Visit the link https://www.espon.eu/vaxjo)
This seminar (in English) will examine the challenges of Kronoberg County and then call on rural development experts to outline recent thinking in stimulating rural economic development. Experts from Nordic countries will comment on the Swedish challenges and compare with their own challenges and thinking. ESPON projects on Shrinking rural regions in Europe, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in European Regions and Cities and the World in Europe (FDI flows) will also be presented.

This workshop (English/Estonian) will examine current issues in the spatial planning systems using Estonia and other Nordic and EU countries as case studies.
The workshop will gather input from ESPON projects such as COMPASS – Comparative Analysis of Territorial Governance and Spatial Planning Systems in Europe, RESSI – Regional strategies for sustainable and inclusive territorial development, and SPIMA – Spatial Dynamics and Strategic Planning in Metropolitan Areas as well as a recent ESPON Policy Brief ‘Indicators for integrated territorial and urban development’.
Both events are free and open to all. They provide access to experts in their field and ESPON research and illustrate how this research can be of use to a wide set of policy makers, academics, spatial planners, regional development experts, politicians and those just interested in the topic. Interactive participation is encouraged and a final session concludes each event with recommendations for future policy.

Whether you are from a small rural village or a big city, local and regional authorities are often responsible for youth and the facilitation of their everyday lives. However, European regions and cities face several challenges regarding youth – such as demographic changes, the need for developing skills and the well-being of youth. What would you say is the biggest challenge for your city or region?
Join us at this side-event where we explore how the EU´s toolbox (e.g. Erasmus+ and the EU Solidarity Corps) can make your region/city more attractive for young people and thereby boost regional growth. This unique seminar brings together several participants, and thereby perspectives, from all over Europe: from North, West, East and South. Youth voices will be present throughout the conference and Novi Sad, the youth capital of 2019, will share their experiences on how they managed to win this prestigious title. Welcome!

Energy Transition in Baltic Sea Region is a one-day workshop, specifically designed for decision-makers and change agents that are working on regional development and are interested in understanding how to achieve sustainable energy transition in the Baltic Sea Region, by serving and using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in every day planning and concrete action.
The aim of this workshop is to help pave the way for increased cooperation and engagement between local and regional authorities as well as other relevant stakeholders, in their work towards the transition to a low-carbon economy in the Baltic Sea Region. We will also try to identify and find ways to overcome some of the challenges and obstacles these authorities encounter in this ambitious task.
The main target group for the workshop is regional politicians working with regional sustainable development issues as well as civil servants working in the field. Additionally, to have more diversity, we would like to invite youth representatives, as well as representatives of business and academia. We expect approximately 20 participants in the seminar. Member Regions and Municipalities of the CPMR Baltic Sea Commission and ERB are invited, together with experts on sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region countries.

Seventy young people (age 16 to 30) from Nordic and Baltic Sea countries met last 18-20 August on the Åland islands to discuss about the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. Youth took part in several workshops focusing on SDG 12- responsible consumption and production in an intercultural and inter-generation learning process. During this Summit, participants elected a Working Group that drafted a first ReGeneration 2030 Manifesto.
The Manifesto was introduced to the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) Annual Conference in Marienhamn yesterday. It will be introduced also:
– by CBSS in its Committee of Senior Officials (19th September in Riga)
– by CBSS Expert Group on Sustainable Development (EGSD) on 27th September in Riga
– during the Democracy Festival Birstonas (7-9 September in Vilnius)
– in the BSSSC Youth Event and Annual Conference (9-12 September in Gdansk)
– in the Forum of Strategic Planning of Regions and Cities of Russia (22-23 October in St. Petersburg)
The Manifesto will also be presented to the ERB Executive Board at its meeting on Bornholm on 26 September 2018.

The Interreg South Baltic Programme is looking for a Junior Project Officer for a short-term replacement until 31st March 2019, with the possibility of extension.

The Interreg South Baltic Programme invites the South Baltic region’s 16-26 years old high school senior and university students (individuals or groups) to participate in a video contest producing a short film (up to 3 minutes) on these topics: sustainable tourism, green technologies, sustainable transport in the South Baltic region.
The aim of the contest is to promote South Baltic Programme’s projects, innovative solutions, opportunities for improvement linked with these themes, and helping to tackle potential issues, obstacles.
