First report on implementation of EUSBSR

On 22nd June 2011 the European Commission published its first progress report on the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

The report analyses key achievements of the Strategy including new projects developed to fulfil the 15 Priority Areas, new momentum provided to existing projects, development of new cooperation networks, alignment of funding and cooperation with non-EU Member States in the Baltic Sea Region. Based on the lessons learnt from the implementation of the Strategy, the Commission sets out five main recommendations including i.a. the need to reinforce the integrated nature of the Strategy through closes alignment with the Europe 2020 Strategy, establishment of specific targets to make the Strategy more focused and more concrete, maximise efforts to align Cohesion Policy and other funding sources in the Region with the objectives of the Strategy, strengthen implementation structures, and develop a "Communication initiative" to ensure broader particiapation in the Strategy as well as better understanding of its achievements.
