AEBR supports people-to-people projects

From the beginning of the preparations for the new programming period and of the new regulations on the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) has successfully intervened in order to defend the interests of border regions. Several achieved improvements are based on the proposals discussed with the EU Commissioner Hahn, Director General Deffaa and the Spokespersons of the Political Groups in the Committee for Regional Development as well as on proposals submitted in writing.

One of the main concerns for the AEBR in the past months was to present good and comprehensive arguments for the maintenance of “people-to-people-projects” (“small project funds”) that have been strongly criticised. Moreover, due to the limited number of priorities per programme their continuation in the future seemed unsure.

After numerous discussions, the AEBR prepared a paper in which it argues for maintaining “people-to-people” project in the new programmin period. The paper was sent to sent to the European Parliament, the EU Commission and the Committee of the Regions.
