On November 9-10, 2017 Agata Ludwiczak – Deputy Head of ERB International Permanent Secretariat – and Domenico Misurelli – IVY volunteer at ERB International Permanent Secretariat – accompanied by Marta Szuter visited 3 schools in the Bartoszyce (Zespół Szkół nr 1 im. Romualda Traugutta; Szkoła Podstawowa nr 8 z Ukraińskim Językiem Nauczania;Zespół Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych nr 2 im. Elizy Orzeszkowej) with the aim of presenting the results of the surveys carried out over the last year in the frame of CaSYPoT project.
The meetings arranged in Bartoszyce represented a good opportunity to integrate those results with answers given by students to questions submitted by Agata Ludwiczak and Domenico Misurelli. Focused on key-areas related to youth such as school, future and leisure time, the questions arose a fruitful debate about real needs of young people in the area and concrete measures to be taken in order to tackle them. For example, as the large majority of the students attending the meetings confirmed what emerged from the survey – as many as 90% of young people living in Bartoszyce believe that they will leave the town – the necessity of developing a strategy capable of confronting such issue is essential. In this case, the lack of opportunities for personal and professional development matches with the general consideration that young people do not have a concrete chance to exert influence on the decision-making process.
Finally, the meetings proved to be an effective showcase for promoting youth mobility in the frame of Eu funded programmes as Erasmus +. Indeed, once more, it turns out that the level of awareness about such programmes is still low thus preventing young people to seize the opportunity specifically designed for them.
